Transmission box Morris Minor
$ 90.73
Description The Spartan single speed transmission box for the Morris Minor is designed to sit between your electric motor and the standard prop shaft, eliminating all other components such as the gearbox and clutch. This allows for the basic engineering principles of ‘add lightness and simplify’. The drive is direct, so a 1:1 gear ratio. There is a third benefit. By moving the motor back into the position previously occupied by the gearbox, weight is centralised and the engine bay is available to mount batteries and other components as far down as possible in the car, keeping the centre of gravity low. Included with the transmission box is the splined boss, which fits to the output shaft of the ‘B’ face on the HPEVS AC-34/35/50/51 and the Netgain Hyper 9 motors. The boss has an internal thread to allow a bolt to be employed to aid removal from the motor shaft if required. An insulating plate made of Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is supplied to protect the transmission box from heat generated by your motor and keep it running at its optimum temperature. Our transmission box also features the ability to drive the original speedometer using the standard Minor drive mechanism. Unscrew the mechanism from your old gearbox, screw it into the Spartan box and you’re ready to go, keeping the interior of your car standard. The box runs using the same oil types as the Morris Minor original. This lubricates the speedometer drive and the bearings within the box, rather than relying on inferior sealed bearings. It also employs the same bush bearing and spline drive at the rear, both lubricated in the same way and meaning it takes just minutes to slide your propshaft onto the box and bolt it back onto your differential. The box has a removal breather for filling, an oil level plug on the side and an oil drain plug. Designing for Morris Minors specifically has allowed us to focus on the car’s requirements in all respects. Our in house assemblies are designed using CAD, which is also used for for stress testing. We then produce prototypes for further testing and modification. We have used specialist component manufacturers, hardened splines and high quality parts including stainless steel oil plugs and breathers. After assembly in our workshops each transmission box sold is individually bench tested. We have aimed at a gold standard for a professional conversion. Many builders want to install an electric motor that gives slightly more power than the original engine and this has been taken into account in the design. If you’re going racing talk to us! We don’t list all spares in our shop but can supply any replacement parts as required. Installation is quick and easy with no special tools required and maintenance is limited to an occasional oil check or change (access for this is spacious). For mounting the box to your motor you will need to use our rear motor mount plate, which is included in our complete motor mount kits for the Morris Minor (AS31320 for Hyper 9, AS31332 for HPEVS) or our universal mount kits (SK24868 for Hyper 9, SK24873 for HPEVS) The box is compatible with all Morris Minors except the MM models, so it will fit all models from 1952 to end of production. The transmission is at the heart of your build. We follow our philosophy of ‘Dependable by Design’ with all our products and each is covered by our 2 year warranty. Note: Though we cannot confirm fitment regarding available space and so on, other cars which share the same original gearbox are Austin A30/A35/A40 plus the Midget and the Sprite. We’re always happy to help with technical issues so could exchange information with people involved with these cars. Used in our EV conversion kits Download instructions
